The Weeknd’s First Encounter With Taylor Swift Was Super Awkward.

The 'Can't Feel My Face' singer explains the other side of that 'petting' incident.
It’s no secret that The Weeknd’s hair is pretty mesmerizing, just ask Taylor Swift.
The two were first introduced earlier this year at Sam Smith’s Grammy after-party, where The Weeknd (a.k.a. Abel Tesfaye) revealed to Rolling Stone magazine that “everyone was hammered.” Well, everyone except Abel since he had decided to stop drinking for that month — and that may have made his encounter with Taylor all the more awkward.
.
“She actually schooled me on my own sh-t,” he recalled. “She was like, ’I’ve been listening to ’The Morning’ [from House of Balloons] for years — it’s one of my favorite songs ever!’ I mean, she might have just Googled it. But she seemed genuine.”
The Weeknd said that their conversation went on for about 15 minutes, but during the entirety of it, she was “petting” his hair.

“I think she was just drawn to it — she must have been a little gone off a few drinks,” he said. “And of course I’m not going to be like, ’Hey, can you stop?’ I mean, it felt good! But when she started petting my hair, that’s when I was like, ’I definitely need a drink.'”
Turns out, the “Can’t Feel My Face” singer, who joined Taylor onstage during the New Jersey stop of her 1989 World Tour, actually emailed the pop star the day after the Grammy party to remind her of that whole petting incident.

“I woke up with an email from The Weeknd and he was like, ’You told me how beautiful I was for about 15 minutes straight and started petting my hair,'” Taylor recalled to “It looked really cool that night and I apparently went on and on about it. I was like, ’You’re so magnificent.'”
Hey, can you really blame her? It is magnificent.
